Cultivating Fall Coziness With Little Ones

The season of Hygge

The temps have dropped this past week in MN and it’s starting to feel more and more like Fall. We officially have the Pumpkin Souffle Candle burning and it’s evoked a sense of excitement for the season of change. 🍂

Since my days now revolve around my little one, I wanted to share all the ways she and I are making a point of slowing down to enjoy the season, and embrace a sense of Hygge (Hoo-gah)! Most of the ideas will be simple. In this season, I’m reminded that the little things in life are the big things. For example, my daughter finds so much joy in exploring the fallen acorns and leaves. 🍁

Create a Cozy Atmosphere:

#1 I constantly have our wax warmer going during the fall & winter months. It not only slowly melts your favorite Hygge Home Candle to release aromatic goodness, it is dimmable to allow for custom ambient lighting.

#3 Rotate Kids Toys & Books Seasonally

I try to rotate Lakely’s toys weekly to keep clutter down (this helps my sanity as well), and to help her maintain interest in her toys. Rotating them makes them “new again” if they’ve been hidden away in the closet for a week or two! Here are some fun toys we’ve added in for Fall.

Toddler Learning Acorn Plastic Toys

These alphabet acorn toys keep my 17 month old busy for an impressive amount of time! I love that she can use them for a long time and they teach ABC’s. Click the photo for link!

Foster Friendships: One of our goals this Fall is to be more active with our friends. It’s vital to my mental health and beneficial for Lakely to be around other people since we’re alone (together) so often. Let’s face it, we get sick of each other 😂. The best way we’ve made connections so far this year is through community education classes, the Peanut app, and mutual friends. We are also very fortunate to have cousins who live close! Though I don’t typically think of myself as outgoing or overly social - I do try harder to make it a priority despite challenges (Naptime, anyone? 🙃). I (almost) never regret getting out of the house and visiting with another adult!

Get Outside: This past summer we joined the “1,000 Hours Outside” Challenge. The goal is to log 1,000 hours outside in one year (seems overly ambitious with Midwest winters, but whatever). This challenge has motivated us to get outside as often as possible and soak up all that nature has to offer. Our favorite way to enjoy the outdoors is camping and we plan to go throughout the fall as well!

If you’d like to learn more about 1,000 Hours outside Click Here. There’s an app to track your hours, share badges, and even coloring pages! ☀️🌳

Focus on Gratitude: Despite the challenges of tantrums and meltdowns, I try to remember - These are the good ol’ days. Even when my day or atmosphere feels less than Hygge, I know these days are fleeting and I need to soak it all in while I can!

Bonus - Enjoy a Moscow Mule 😜
